Allen Carr - creator of Easyway
In 1983 after countless miserable attempts to quit his 33 year, 100 a-day smoking habit, Allen Carr developed what every smoker dreams of – an easy way to stop smoking.
Carr launched his first clinic in Raynes Park, just outside London, England. He never advertised but word of his successful technique soon spread. Two years later, in 1985 Carr was asked to put his seminar into book form. That book, The Easy Way to Stop Smoking has since sold over seven million copies and is one of the bestselling self-help books in the history of publishing.
On November 29th, 2006, Allen Carr died of inoperable lung cancer, aged 72, survived by his wife Joyce, four children, two step-children and many grand children. Allen was disgnosed with his illness in the summer of 2006. It seems probable that the years he spent curing smokers in smoke-filled seminars must have contributed to his illness. Yet Allen felt this was a price worth paying for the millions of smokers he helped become free from smoking.
During his life he was widely acknowledged as the world's leading authority on quitting smoking. He leaves a legacy of more than 70 clinics in 38 countries worldwide and a method that remains unrivalled in its effectiveness in the field of smoking cessation.
